Jorōgumo Tee
In Japanese folklore, the jorōgumo is a spider that takes the form of a woman, and her best-known legend comes from Jōren Falls on the Izu Peninsula. The Jorōgumo Tee carries her and 絡新婦 in black and white. Minimalist Japanese apparel, printed to order in the US.
渡鴉
Watarigarasu is the Japanese name for the common raven, Corvus corax. The characters read “the crow that crosses over”: 渡 for crossing or migration, 鴉 for crow. It is the largest bird in the crow family and the largest of all the songbirds, and in Japan it is a winter visitor, arriving in eastern Hokkaido from Kamchatka and Sakhalin when the sea ice comes down.
The black of a raven has its own name in Japanese. Nureba-iro, the color of a crow’s wet feathers, is the deepest black in the traditional palette, with a blue cast in the light. It is the black this brand is built on.
