The jorogumo spider on eight legs, 絡新婦 beneath it. White on black. Women’s cut.

絡新婦 is jorogumo, the spider. The name belongs first to a real animal, the golden orb weaver that strings its wide webs across paths and gardens in Japan every autumn. In the Edo period yokai books the same name goes to a spider that has lived long enough to take human form and spin silk strong enough to bind. Both live in the same word.
Here it sits on eight legs, the human half in robes with its hair down, drawn in line. Printed large across the back, with the wordmark at the left chest. Women’s cut.
